Trans Mountain Pipeline Project – Burnaby Terminal Tank Construction
Chinook Welding Ltd. contributed to the construction of large-scale petroleum storage tanks at the Burnaby Terminal, located atop Burnaby Mountain, as part of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Project—a critical piece of energy infrastructure in British Columbia.
Serving in a lead hand and supervisory role, our team oversaw crews involved in the fabrication and assembly of tank barrels, coordinating field operations to maintain strict safety, quality, and schedule requirements within a high-demand industrial environment.
Our scope included performing SMAW (stick) welding, structural steel fabrication, and ironworking procedures on key components throughout the tank construction process. We were responsible for interpreting blueprint drawings, directing crews during installation, and ensuring all structural elements were aligned and installed to project specifications.
In addition to welding and supervision, Chinook Welding supported rigging operations and heavy crane lifts, assisting with the placement of major infrastructure components, including electrical buildings, vessels, bridges, and structural steel platforms.
The Burnaby Terminal is a major storage hub consisting of 26 tanks with a combined capacity of approximately 5.5 million barrels, playing a vital role in the storage and distribution of crude and refined petroleum products.
This project highlights Chinook Welding Ltd.’s capability to deliver structural welding, fabrication, and field supervision on large-scale industrial and energy infrastructure projects across BC.
